Hi All,

So new tank is doing well, nitrites just hit 0 for the first time  :D
Tonight while removing some of the brown algae I noticed some small white bugs. I assume they have come off the plants. Are they OK shall I just leave them for my fish to deal with once I get some?

Could be baby snails off the plants.

Hi @Dpv22

Are you able to give us a few details about the small white bugs? Approximately what size are they? What shape are they? Do they look like tiny worms? Do they move slowly or quickly? Are you able to take a photo with a phone camera and then upload it to your post?

How long has the tank been up-and-running? I ask that partly because you make a mention of brown algae. Even if you can't get a close-up of the white bugs, could you let us have a picture of your tank? That would be helpful.

Hi @Littlefish

Yes, I agree. That is definitely a possibility. You will see that I have asked @Dpv22 for a few more details.

Thanks for the replies.
The tank is in its third week.
There are not worms, they crawl on the glass but also zip about in the water. I'll post a pic not very clear I would say they are 1 tp 2 mm in size

I would have thought planaria (and I think that was probably JPC's line of questioning about worms) - but trying to find a video of such for you to compare with is proving difficult... Edited to add: this might be useful https://fishlab.com/planaria/
Hope fishless cycle is otherwise going well.

If they’re free swimming they’re not planaria. Probably Copepods. Free fish food...

Thank you I am fairly certain they are Copepods, they seem to have antenna, or maybe seed shrimp either way I'm not too bothered

Tonight I can also see tiny white worms also moving about in the water. I'm just going to put it all down to the water, plants and algea sorting them self out during cycling. Ive got to do a large water change soon for nitrates anyway, glad I purchased a proper vacuum to siphon and not using the old fashon method
