Anyone out there interested in Bolbitis rhizomes?

I don’t really want to send with the leaves as I’m concerned about die off, damage etc in the post and want to avoid any disgruntled customers... but figured I could ship the rhizomes with minimal risk for others to grow on??

I probably have about 30 to 40cms worth so it’s a decent amount if anyone’s interested...

They grow in super low light attached to decor and are very hardy indeed, a surprisingly fast grower too. In comparison to Java fern they are super easy peasy. Nice dark leaf colour adds some interest to most tanks too. Not the plants in the photos but I realise many may not know what they would look like...

Hi @Matt

Yes, I'm certainly interested. Is it Bolbitis heudelotii (Congo Fern)? I could do a swap for some Repashy Soilent Green, if you could use some for your gang of fish, etc.

I still have a few portions of these available (it just doesn’t stop growing!!). £7.50 for 25cm of rhizome inc. postage and packing. They go in the normal post and so there’s no worry about having to go out to pick them up or anything at these strange times. Something I’m happy to support with advice on growing if your are interested?

Matt, if these Bolbitis and Java fern Rhizomes are available are you able to let me know? I should note I’ve got a low tech planted tank.

I still have an excess of Bolbitis definately, quite a bit in fact. Java fern I have less of, but I’ll take a look and see how much I can spare tomorrow for you. I’ll message you later...

Hi @Matt

You'll be pleased to know that the Bolbitis and Java Fern that I got from you are still growing. I have now also got Great Ramshorn Snails (Planorbarius corneus) that may have hitched a ride on these plants!

Oh dear, sorry your hear about the snails, or are you ok with this? I have very few in my tank thanks to my dwarf puffers... but I suppose it is possible they hitched a ride...

Hi @Matt

No problem whatsoever. But, they multiply at quite a rate, don't they? Initially, I couldn't identify what species of snail they were. Fortunately, someone on A N Other Forum knew immediately.

Hi @Matt

My Bolbitis and Java Fern continue to grow. Although the Java Fern is growing well and looks good, the Bolbitis is a very slow grower. I am not adding any form of carbon to the tank other than the carbonate/bicarbonate in the water. I add TNC Complete every week. The lighting is one that I removed from a 27 litre Aqua One tank that I was given. But, it combines cool white and red LEDs, which isn't a bad combo.

The tiny Ramshorn snails are a bu**er to eliminate! I tried ESHA Gastropex - no joy! I tried increasing the copper level - no joy! I'll probably remove the plants temporarily and resort to potassium permanganate. There are no other livestock in the tank.

All the best!
