Impact of Fishkeeping on Health & Wellbeing

Hi Everyone,

Posting in here as it seemed most relevant to my particular ask of forum members. I am in the process of applying for some funding to establish a fishkeeping charity that will support vulnerable adults to access the hobby. There is lots of evidence out their about how good hobbies, and indeed fishkeeping, are for your health and wellbeing, not to mention your blood pressure!!

I want to establish a baseline of how impactful fishkeeping is for people, and from there go on to design a charity that will best showcase our awesome hobby and introduce new people to fishkeeping.

If you are willing to complete a short survey, it would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks,

Aquarium Shed

Hi @aquariumshed

That's an interesting idea.

I've had a great time learning about fish, and talking to the people on this forum, as well as those in the shops I visit.

I have completed the survey, and if you do set up the charity I may be able to pass on some of the ornaments, decor, and equipment that I no longer use.

Best of luck with your project and please keep us updated on progress.

I've modified your text address for the survey in your post into a web link to make accessing the survey easier for folk.

I've also completed the survey.

I have commented about planted tanks/aquascaping. I have a bit of an objective to simplify this side of the hobby to get more people into it. See: www.scapeeasy.co.uk. I think it offers additional relaxation benefits, opportunity for learning about nature etc etc. so take a look and let me know via private message if you want to talk further about this.

There are 2 aquascapers I strongly suggest you reach out to on Instagram or Facebook.  George Farmer has used the hobby to help him deal with PTSD after leaving the army. Juris Mit JS maintains an aquarium in a foster centre.

Good luck, keep us posted.

Not directly connected with the survey but on the topic of the title, I just happened to find this when browsing for something completely unrelated: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6663029/  About to have a good read of it now.  :fishy1:
