Hi all

So have finally come to a decision about fish. In my 200 litre i have got 2 oranda goldfish and a black moor. Due to the size they can grow, this is all that can go in the tank. One is already coming to front of tank when it sees me, so that puts a smile on my face.

The 125 litre, i have 12 ember tetras in at the moment. Definitely will add another tetra and then either dwarf or sparking gourami.

Will let you know how things go.

Nearly forgot, got a 30 litre tank to cycle for a siamese fighting fish.

Great news about the goldfish (orandas and blackmoor). Wonderful fish and very interactive - I'm very envious and hope for regular updates! :fishy1: :fishy1: :fishy1:

Also good to read about the ember tetras.  Looking forward to reading about your second type of tetra.  As for the gourami, possibly sparkling gourami would be a better choice than dwarf gourami, given the dwarf gourami's proneness to iridovirus, but up to you, of course.

Absolutely adorable! Thanks so much for sharing. :cheers:

If I may offer one piece of advice, be careful as they grow as they'll enjoy trying to squeeze into that ornament to retrieve food, and one day will likely get stuck - an unpleasant event my own goldfish experienced & necessitating me seeking help.

I had a similar situation with a fake log with a hole in the side & an axolotl.  ::)

Just a little update on the 2 new tanks.

The 125 litre i started with 12 ember tetras, and still have all of them. Had trouble feeding them at first as they were very small but just crushed up some flake and all is good. I have today added 12 purple harlequins (after quarantine) as i think they will look great in the planted tank.

The 200 litre tank hasnt gone as straightforward as i hoped, but have learnt things. My black moor got a white cotton thing on it, thought it was something but turns out it is anchor worm (well as best as can be determined. The initial worm seems to have gone but still got a little on his tail area after 5 days of using medicines. Not keen to re dose as when i did first dose the fish became very lethargic for a day. Now one of the other fancies has a popeye. It could be bacterial or they could have caught themselves on decoration. Whilst i wont dose anything for now for the popeye, i have changed the decorations to silk flowers as feel the decoration could be the culprit.

Sounds good.

If you haven't already done it, move the filter from the quarantine tank into the 125L tank, so that you have the full complement of filter media in that tank to support all 12 embers and all 12 purple harlequins. (Alternatively, you could just remove the filter media from the quarantine tank filter and squeeze it into the 125L tank's filter if there's room to do so.)  As your quarantine duration will have been quite short, keep a close eye on the tank for the next few weeks in particular as some cases of whitespot in particular don't appear until close to the 1-month mark. Hope all goes smoothly for you.

Sorry to read about the anchor worm and the popeye, and hope each of them resolve in time, especially with the replacement of plastic with silk decorations.

Looking forward to seeing photos of both tanks in due course.

Are you still planning on getting a betta, or putting that plan on hold for a while?

Sorry to hear about your goldfish. - popeye is not uncommon but anchorworms are fairly rare... you’ve not had the best of luck there. I agree with your minimum treatment choices, I rarely use meds with my fish as good water quality is often a far better medicine in my experience.

Purple harlequins are a lovely choice... a species is forgotten about but am about to google again! You might just have me breaking my South American fish only rule...
