Haven't posted any pictures yet so thought I would try this as my first one - it's my Dwarf Gourami lurking below the floating greenery whilst the moonlight LED is on  :fishy1:. Thought it was a bit different than showing a fully lit tank!

Thanks Sue!

I have a combination of Frogbit, Water Lettuce and a Salvina (although not sure exactly which one - I think it's Salvinia Natans).

I had some Salvinia, I didn't know which one either, S natans or S minima. It grew like crazy, I regularly had to throw handfuls in the compost bin; then it all went brown and died last year  :-\
I've been wondering about frogbit and water lettuce, have to give them a try.

Frogbit's brill - a real nitrate hoover and the roots seem to be loved by the fish.

I think the 3 seem to work well together owing to the different root lengths - the long frogbit roots are a great effect and the fish like weaving in and out of them, whilst the addition of the water lettuce and particularly the Salvina helps space them out.

I know some people aren't keen on floating plants, I think mainly because they make maintenance a bit trickier, but they're worth it in my view - my fish certainly seem to appreciate their addition (particularly the Gourami!)  :)

Completely agree! I have noticed the drop in Nitrates since introducing them as well ;D

Frogbit is banned in certain parts of the world 'cos of it's ability to swamp waterways so quickly. My friend from the Wallingford Centre for Ecology and Hydrology had kittens when he saw my Frogbit, but I assured him that all my excess goes in the compost bin - until I get my megalomaniacal desire to take over the world.....
