pre cycling bio media

Hi all, I have decided to add a APS EF-2 booster filter to my fluvial 107, the intention being that the booster will do the mechanical filtration and adding additional bio media in the 107 to replace the mechanical media.
I want to try and pre cycle the new bio media and was thinking that putting the 1kg of new bio media into the main tank space in a netted bag would start the process .
Am I right in this thought process and what sort of time scale would people recommend before replacing the mechanical filters with bio media in the 107.

The bacteria will end up being shared by both so you may as well just add it in the booster. You can’t have more bacteria than you have ammonia for, so it will become slowly become colonised from the 107. The quickest way to do that is to have it running so that water is being pumped through it.

And I would recommend replacing the media a third at a time with at least a week apart as the bacteria should then have time to multiply to keep everything ticking over nicely
