Hi Folks,

My wife looks after our Celestial Pearl Danios (CPDs). She has tried a wide range of foods with them - flake, micro pellets (0.2mm diameter), Daphnia, chopped bloodworm (from frozen), etc. But the CPDs just don't take what is offered. We can't work out how they manage to survive. Perhaps they are consuming Aufwuchs* on the Moss Ball/Taiwan Moss - if there are any Aufwuchs in the tank! Does anyone have any suggestions?

While I don't have CPDs, I've experienced this with my cardinal tetras who either show no interest in most of the foods I've offered or spit out even the smallest of micro pellets, as though they are too big. What has worked, though, is putting flakes into a food processor so that they are ground down to a fine powder (they enjoy going for the tiny morsels), Tetra Pro Colour crisps (even although these are big, so size of food can't be the problem as I'd thought) and gel-based brine shrimps.

Hi @fcmf

Thanks for your reply.

It's a good comparison that you have made between CPDs and Cardinal Tetras as I keep both (not in the same tank). Interestingly, the Cardinal Tetras do eat the flake that I use (currently Seachem Tropical Flakes). They love it. But they are not good with some pelleted food. I have a small pestle and mortar, which I keep for fish food. It does a very good job of grinding flake into dust! But it's not necessary to grind the Seachem flakes although I do break them up into smaller pieces before feeding time.

Thanks, @JPC - I'll make a note to try that brand of flakes next time. Hope you have some success in identifying a food that your CPDs will eat.
