Title: what's going on with the forum / site
Post by: jesnon on May 30, 2013, 01:53:16 PM
Anyone know what's going on at the mo!?

Yesterday I got onto the site and saw it had changed and was looking great. today I can only access the site from my phone and not my laptop!? Hence my short posts / typos as I hate using my phone for this!

I know we've all been having trouble with the site and forum for a while now, especially this last week it's been unavailable most times ive tried...

Thought I'd post again just to say that...

I can now access the forum, but only because I'm on internet explorer and not my usual browser Chrome. It seems to be running OK on here... though I much prefer Chrome and it'll be a little annoying if I have to keep using a different browser for this site!

But if anyone else had any problems they may also need to move over to another browser...

No problems using Chrome or my usual Firefox for me, so dunno what's happening at your end.  Looks like Peter has been hard at work updating the main site http://www.thinkfish.co.uk/blog/2013/may/website-redesign

Hmm that's weird. Wonder what's going on from my end. This is all I get on Chrome:

That looks like a dodgy stylesheet download for the webpage (throws out all the pretty formatting).  Suggest clearing out Chrome cookies and its cache, relaunching Chrome and trying again.

OK you're officially a genius - that seems to have done the trick! I can now actually see the pretty new site too, as I'd only seen the new page for a few minutes before, looks great!

It is possible that the owner has been doing some tweaking and this has been causing the problems.  Have you noticed that when you click on something in the menu bar at the top the menu changes its appearance. It looks more like it did on the old site. The fish profiles section has more categories as well when you click on it - 11 sections rather than the 5 that appear when you hover over 'fish profiles' in the forum.

Peter had definitely been doing something to the site (http://www.thinkfish.co.uk/blog/2013/may/website-redesign). The menu bar at the top of the forum has changed, and some of the categories have gone (eg information which wouldn't work yesterday).

Maybe some members who know about the running of websites can say whether this tweaking would cause the recent slowness?

It caused me no-end of problems (using Chrome) and it was impossible to post anything - but it seems to have settled down now.

Glad it wasn't just me that had problems in Chrome. I've had more problems again today in that when I'm in a forum topic like this one all of the shortcuts and images at the top disappear and become a small list instead. However I can still navigate around the site well enough so I'm happy!

Sounds like they've been very busy on the site - I'm hoping that's a good sign it'll be sticking around!

i've had some problems using Chrome, but all seems fine today.   ;D

Enjoying the changes, the expanded Fish Profile is great so is the way the articles have been arranged.
Everything looks fresh and clean.

A good job
