Using Descriptive Post Titles in Forum Posts

Hello

As some of you may have read from the rare posts I make, ultimately, my mission in life with regard to Thinkfish.co.uk is to create as much visibility as I can for people looking for solutions and help with their fish keeping issues. The more eyeballs that get to see how this wonderful community operates, the better for everyone!

Whilst things like social share buttons, social media accounts, well structured content, good layout and design go a way to help with this, they are but a small part of the promotion solution.

An important traffic source on the internet is from search engines. To this end, it's pretty important that we use descriptive titles in our posts as they are the number one factor in telling a robot what the content that follows is about.

An example of this might be a post entitled "HELP ME NOW PLEASE!". Whilst other forum users might have a good idea of what the issue is (they'll read your accompanying post of course) search engines aren't as smart.

A better title might have been "I need to euthanise my {insert breed of} fish - what's the best way to do it?"

(not singling you out fishcake76 everyone does it all over the web! :) )

Such a title, would be more informative to the general viewer but would also give the search engines a better indication of what the post is likely to be about.

As a consequence, subsequent users of that search engine using a query like "I need to euthanize my {insert breed of} fish " might be more likely to have one of our pages returned in the results.

Going forward, you may now subsequently notice a subtle change to some of the titles that you use for your posts.  This isn't me editing you directly, it's more me adding context to the questions you might be asking.

It would of course, help enormously if you thought about this yourselves as it would leave less housekeeping for me to do also!

If you have any issues or queries on this do please send me a PM and I'll do my best to help.

ps. You're also welcome to carry on as you like too, no offence will be taken, no consequences etc it's just a friendly request.

While attempting to get to grips with using a tablet (rather than a laptop), have had an attempt to fix the latest threads accordingly; hope helpful as an example.  C:-)

Just giving this thread another "bump" as a general reminder and for the benefit of our new forum users. [I've been amending some thread titles over the past few days, so that it's easier to work out what they're specifically about but hopefully folk can make their own forum post titles more descriptive as they create them.] C:-)
