Ive had to temporarily move the domain to new location.
As a result, the community creator doesn't currently function
Apologies.
-
Nice to be able to get in again though.
-
The forum and most of the files work but the community creator is playing up - Ive spent most of today try to fix it, but I'm not making much progress :(
-
Ive been getting emails saying people have posted but couldn't get on the forum to read them. Presumably access has been intermittent and I've just missed the windows?
A bit of deja vu though. Back in late 2011 the site had problems; sometimes it took ages to load, other times it wouldn't load at all. The then site owner was then given a week to quit the host, due to problems with the CC affecting all the users of the host. He saved all the data (profiles, articles etc) but not the CC or the forum. Six moths later, the new forum was up and running and the CC had been reworked.
-
Glad the forum's back. Good luck getting everything back.
If you need a hand with testing anything, let me know.
-
Thanks all!
And thanks for the offer of help Simon.
At this point there's little anyone can do, other than me really 😕
When I've a stable secondary host again, I'll move the cc and the non forum stuff back to the old IP address and leave the forum on this IP. It should prevent future occurrences of this and the forum will be a whole lot faster too.
The cc will work too - there's something about this server set up it doesn't like. I changed all the server paths and it still falls over.
We'll get there 😊
-
Will separating the forum and the website/CC onto different hosts break the new forum signature feature which displays our CC tanks?
I'm just curious really.

Possibly.
But until the existing host reinstates the site on that box, I won't know.
I'll look for a symfony developer too as that could be a fallback.

Ok - I think the issues are now resolved.
You should all notice improved performance across the board now.
The forum database is hosted elsewhere now which means the load is spread between two separate boxes.
Some of you might still be seeing old dns but this should propogate within the next few hours.
The CC is now functional again and the fish profiles are back online.
Thanks for your patience.

Sorry about the server issues guys! On it...

Thank you Rob

Well done Robert, I know how frustrating troubleshooting these things can be ::) and you managed to make an improvement along the way too!!
FYI (and this is meant to be nothing but constructive :D ), a couple of things I've noticed since the switch over:
· The link in the top bar to the forum doesn't work everywhere, e.g. from fish profiles. I've noticed th s t the link changes from 'Tropical Fish Forum' to 'Fish Forum' depending on where you are in the site, and wonder if this is related??
· The little icon for the forum pages (appears next to the tab title) is now a seesaw rather than the angelfish.
Very minor stuff, but I though it worth putting out there...
-
Thanks Mat, good spots.
The first is more related to creating internal anchor txt diversity and the second is to do with the favicon for the new subdomain, I'll change it when I get to a laptop next!
Yes, it's much faster now and thus far, holding up well. More ram and solid state drives 😎

...and I thought it was Robert's homage to 'Dark Side of the Moon'. :))

Funny ColinB!
"Welcome my son, welcome to the machine"
Wish you were here
And this pink floyd lyric and album is a paradoxical summation of where I'd prefer not to be :isay:

It's been a month now since the new kit was sorted.
How are people finding things?
Better?
Page load times are right down, which leads me to believe it's all good, but there's no real indicator like people and their perceptions...
-
All good as far as I'm concerned, thanks.

...and much like computers, you generally won't hear from people unless something is going wrong :rotfl:
I have seen a marked improvement in page loading times on both laptop and smartphone. Very happy with the forum performance. Many thanks for everything that goes on behind the scenes @Robert
-
A definite thumbs-up from me, too. The site seems to be working flawlessly.... thanks.
-
All good from here too; thanks, Rob!

Great! Looks like everyone's seeing improvement! Thanks guys 🙂

Ditto what everyone else said
