Title: Marking first posts in new threads (Solved)
Post by: Robert on January 13, 2016, 09:20:32 PM
In my never ending quest to tweak and add utility I'd like to let you know that where questions are resolved and people have a solution for their problem, I'm going to start editing the titles of the first post made in the thread by adding the word (SOLVED) at the end of the thread title.

I believe this will increase confidence from search engine users looking for answers to their fish problems. If they see a search result that has the word SOLVED in the title then they may be inclined to have greater confidence in the result shown.

It would be super if those of you who are seeking solutions to your problems could also do the same for questions that you've asked and have a satisfactory answer for.

You need not do this for past questions but you can if you want to.

Just so we are clear, no one has to do this, it's entirely optional but it would help if you did.

I'll be dropping in periodically and editing the odd thread title here and there as I spot them.

Thanks for your attention 😊

ps. I'm going to look to work out a programmatic solution too, but it might be a while -

pps. currently for threads you own or if you're a mod, you'll see a topic solved button at the bottom. This will add a green tick to the posts and enable people to see that it's been resolved. I figure I'll be able to tweak this behaviour to update the title too. Watch this space.

Hi Robert,

This sounds good but can I just check with you if it would still be possible to add to the thread once the problem is 'solved' eg if a problem were to recur and further advice needed or if further reflections of potential solutions are thought of later?

Hi Robert,

Absolutely

It's by no means a problem solved leave it be position, more a problem solved but it's still open to discussion. I guess there will be scenarios where a fish gets poorly and someone offers a solution and the fish gets well only to get unwell again. The reason for the fishes initial malaise and rectification will have been dealt with by the suggestion proffered (evident in recovery) but it may well relapse too. The point is however that the general dialogue that follows from the original question and the recovery means that the initial problem was indeed solved. Subsequent deteriorations actually add to the pot and users should be able to see the ebb and flow and take note of the varying suggestions.

So in that context, I think it's all good really - threads are seldom if ever closed. They are on occasions split off in to new threads and in the circumstances described previously that could well be a situation that was best dealt with in that way.

By and large I think these will be edge cases and I said from the outset its but an option that you can take or leave 😊

Does that address your concerns?

Yes, it does entirely, thanks, and your example is exactly the sort of scenario I was thinking of. Many thanks.
