Title: Extra Profile controls
Post by: Robert on August 29, 2018, 09:29:20 AM
I've opened up user profiles for viewing by other users.

I've also given people the ability to hide their profile from all viewers too.

You can see the new settings in your profiles.

For people who have a known sensitivity to this, I've already updated their settings so that their profiles will continue to be hidden.

If you have a community tank, your profile will also show your tank along with pictures of your fish.

See the settings here https://forums.thinkfish.co.uk/profile/?area=account . and your profile here https://forums.thinkfish.co.uk/profile/

@Robert
I have just removed all fish from my 'tanks' in the Community Creator. I have some fish that are not in the fish profiles so I had to substitute them in the CC with similar fish that are in the profiles. The fish I actually have are listed in  my signature.

However, my profile still shows all the fish that I have just deleted! I have even logged out, cleared cache and cookies, logged back in and they are still there.
Is the content of the CC in the profile a fixed point? If the content of my CC still shows in my profile after deleting them all, presumably as people change the content of their CC tanks, it won't change in their profile?

Hi Sue

That’s because the database is replicated and you are seeing the old updated version. So, for now, the tank will stay there until I do another manual update.

Unfortunately, the community creator databases aren’t synchronised, but I’m hoping to change this down the line.

In the meantime, if you don’t want people to see them, then you can go to your account settings and set your profile to private and no one will see them.

Hope that helps!

I think I'll just live with it for the time being  :)

If I set my profile to private does that hide the other information about me or just the community creator stuff. I am in a similar position to Sue.

I've also noticed that the thing in the profile page doesn't split out between the multiple tanks I have in the CC. Is that something we can address too?

Hi Matt

“Private” hides the whole profile from everyone. You can use the buddy system to show it to people in your group or you can choose to show it to all and sundry.

As to the other point, at the moment no. As per the part at the bottom of the tank.

Note: The user may not necessarily own these fish, these are tanks that they may be building or researching for stocking purposes”

Just a quick update, the cc databases for the fish at least, are now synched every 8 hours across the 2 servers. So, if you want to show an up to date fish tank in your sigs or profiles (if publicly viewable) you now can. Just delete your text sig and if you have a tank in the CC it will now show the fish you have and the last update date.I've also made the CC pages a little more visually user friendly, but this is ongoing and subject to more tweaks.  :isay:
