Title: Poorly Platy
Post by: Mark359 on April 05, 2018, 09:08:57 AM
Hi,

One of my platies seems to be ill, can anyone offer any advice if there is anything I can do please.

There is a video of the fish here:
https://youtu.be/FPwY3TUHjGA (https://youtu.be/FPwY3TUHjGA)

As you can see the one side of their face has gone all white, it looks like there are bits missing rather than something growing over the top.

The fish also seems to be a little low on energy and is floating up near the top a lot more than usual.

All of the rest of the platies are healthy, so much so that they are breeding like mad at the moment. These are a few of my current babies:

What other fish do you have in your tank? Or is it all platies?
The white patch doesn't look like a fungus or growth, so could your fish have injured itself? Perhaps on some decor, or has it had any problems with any of the other fish in the tank? Does it look like there are scales missing?
Could you also post your water parameters please.
For the time being it might be worth doing a water change and increasing the oxygen in the tank - increase surface water movement or put in an air stone if you have one.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you.

I read your post but didn’t have tank readings to hand. I have now measured levels and all look ok (apart from the nitrate being a little high but it often is for me).

Good news though in that the platty
Seems a lot healthier now  :)

They have started to become a lot more active and the white markings have started to go. It almost looks like now that another fish had possibly attacked it and they were damaged scales.

Hopefully it won’t happen again, I don’t have any aggressive fish in the tank so I don’t know if that is actually what happened. Just a theory
