First the good news.. My boss has sent me a text saying there will be no electricity at work tomorrow from 8.30 to 6.30 so we get the day off

Now the bad news.. She has two very large goldfish in a 64l tank which is far to small for them but that's another story.

Anyway, I'm not in work today and am worried about the effect on them. Will the bacteria in the filters die? Will the fish be okay? Should I go in tomorrow and do a water change? I can't get in today and nobody else there would be willing to do anything.

I just read the article on Power Cuts but it wasn't much help as a battery operated air pump is not an option.

Thats 10 hrs with no filter..the bacteria shouldnt die as long as it's kept wet and maybe if you test the water mid day and see whats going on with ammonia, nitrite and nitrates and then do a water change if nessecary. How does that sound?

Fiona is spot on.

Don't feed the fish today (unless it's already been done) and fast them the next couple of days too. And of course, check the water.
If it's an internal filter it should be OK. If it's an external, maybe someone go in tomorrow and float the media in the tank. Lack of oxygen is the problem with externals.

Thanks Fiona and Sue. There are two filters, an internal Fluval U2 and a Marina hang on back. Should I remove the media from the hob to the tank?

If the media inside the HOB are likely to get dry with no water flow then yes, put the media in the tank.

(This is also a danger with trickle filters in the hood)
