Title: Male platy with a white spot on tail fin
Post by: Anne on May 10, 2015, 09:47:20 PM
Male platy has a white spot on his tail fin, it is on both sides as if it goes straight through. It looks like it is slightly raised up.
Other than the spot he is fine: eating normally, fighting with his reflection in the glass and chasing/stalking one of my female platies.
I thought it might be ich/white spot but that looks like smaller dots and lots of them.
I have attached a photo.

If the spot is in the same place on both sides of the fin it is unlikely to be whitespot. I have seen this on my fish from time to time and the only thing I could think of was a scar or, a better word, the fish equivalent of a scab. He could have caught his tail on something or even been bitten by another fish (one of the females getting fed up with him perhaps). Whatever the cause, it never lasted long when my fish have had it, so I suggest keeping an eye on him for now. If it starts to get worse, we'll have to think of something else.

Thanks Sue.

I will keep an eye on it and hopefully it will go soon.

Just to update you, the White spot has gone, it has been getting smaller over the last few days and has now totally disappeared.

Thanks for the advice.
