Morning all. My tank has been established for 5 months with fish in for the last 3. Last week I noticed one of the zebra danios looking very thin and within a couple of hours he was dead. Prior to the last couple of weeks everything seemed fine and the fish seemed to be growing ok but now I just have a feeling that something is wrong in the tank. Ammonia & nitrite have always been 0 and nitrate which starts at 40 in our tap water never goes above 60/70. I do a 50% change every week. Could it be that I'm not feeding enough they seem to spit out the flakes and micro pellets but eat the frozen shrimp and bloodworms I give once a week ok.

Are the rest of the fish looking and behaving normally? If they are, I would put this one fish down to having something wrong, possibly since you bought it. How long ago did you buy the danios, and what other fish do you have?

If you find they are not eating flakes and pellets, they could be finding them a bit hard. Try soaking them in a bit of tank water for a few minutes before adding to the tank. Yoghurt pots are very useful for this type of thing, though personally I prefer individual sized cheesecake tubs!

I've got a scraggy glowlight like that. It never puts on weight even though it eats ok and isnt nicely rounded like the others, it's main body colour is a dirty grey unlike the others which are a kind of gold. I've treated it with eSHa exit and dosed it for worms and parasites but it's still exactly the same. I just regard it as a bit of a runt cos it seems happy enough.
