Yes it is common to lose some - survival of the fittest.

Is the nursery one of those that goes in the main tank or is it a separate nursery tank?

I'll wait for your reply rather than type out possibilities for both.

Out of the 10 celebes fry I had only 4 made it to adulthood. So Sue's right, they won't all make it. Good luck with the rest

I asked because more deaths seem to occur in the very small nets/boxes that go inside the main tank.

I assume the nursery tank was filtered and heated? Did you do a small water change every day to remove uneaten food?

As long as there are enough hiding places for the fry they should be OK with the adult fish.

it is an intank nursery, and tank water flows through it. I remove all uneaten food with a straw every day. I have since put all remaining 14 fry into the main tank, but as its a large well planted tank, I have never counted all 14, but the ones I have seen look fine.

Ooops, misunderstood  :-[

Those small ones that go inside the main tank do seem to have more problems that separate nursery tanks. The water doesn't flow through the same as in a tank, and the growth rate of the fry is also slower because of the small container. They will be much better off in the main tank. Some always manage to survive.

Baby mollies have been in main tank 4 days, and all fourteen are fine, and are growing fast, took forever to get a correct count lol.
