At a loss

I've got 6 female endlers that share a 45 litre tank with Frank and I've noticed some of them keep flicking off the decor and almond leaves in the tank they're in, other than that they look fine, they're eating and pooing normally, there's no permanent fin clamping although sometimes 1 or 2 have their dorsal fin down for a few moments but that's normal right?.

Water is fine pH 8, 0 ammonia and nitrite and nitrates somewhere between 40 and 80 (tap water is 40) as a precaution I treated them with eSHa 2000 and eSHa Exit last week but they're still doing it.

Anyone got any ideas cos I'm stumped? I've promised them to a friend but I dont want to pass them diseased fish.

How long have they been flicking and how often do they do it? I do appreciate that female endlers all look the same so it may not be easy to say how often any particular fish does it!

Fish do get itches like we do so if it is only intermittent, they could just have an itch.
If your ammonia & nitrite are zero it is not chemical irritation.
Things like whitespot can take a few days to become visible, which is why I asked how long they have been doing it for.
Velvet also causes fish to flick on things but can be hard to see - they would have a gold sheen, best observed in the dark with a flashlight.

Other than that, I too am at a loss.

I've only noticed them doing it over the last few days hopefully the meds will do the trick. I have noticed they have 'gold bits' for lack of a better description on some of their fins, would that be velvet? I thought it was air bubbles.

Velvet is usually a gold sheen rather than bits, though I wouldn't be surprised at anything biological things do. If it is parasitic, the two meds should clear it.

Hi,

Just wondering if it could be a side effect of the treatment?? I know in human drugs the side effects can be the same as the symptoms they treat. Have you got all the treatment out of the water?? Maybe a few water changes would help??

Just an idea.  :)

Yes i know they were like it before you medicated the tank but what i mean is if the meds have cured the actual cause of the itching could the remnants of the meds in the water now be causing itching as a side effect?!

Does that make sense or am I talking rubbish?! ???

Ah now I know what you mean and I doubt it, you dont have to remove eSHa exit with carbon pads as it degrades naturally in the tank.
