Hi
Pretty sure I have a cardinal tetra with whitespot on it :'(
Introduced a few gold neons a couple of days ago and it seems to have appeared since then so assuming they are culprits (although I never put the water from the shop in the tank so not sure how it has happened, they are so tiny I'm sure I would have noticed a massive whitespot on them!).
Anyway having read up about Ich I'm now wanting to go to the lfs and get some medication. Have heard that Kordon Rid Ich is best as it has lower levels of green malachite?, is this widely sold in UK does anyone know? Or any other recommendations?
ASAP pretty please, would like to start sorting this today as I'm worrying about my fishies :-[
Many thanks (wasn't sure where to post so will also post on health forum, hope that's ok) :-\

I use King British original formula ws3. I only use this brand as I discovered it doesn't kill amano shrimps at half dose (I have loaches) when I couldn't catch them to put them in the QT for the duration. Most brands will do the job, provided you follow the instructions to the letter. There must be some medication in the tank when every last one reaches stage 3 of the lifecycle.
No matter how careful you are, a small amount of shop water will always get into the tank. I suppose the only way to try to avoid getting any shop water in the tank would be to acclimate the fish in a bucket, then replace the water in the bucket several times before putting the fish in the tank - and even then, there would still be the risk that there were the odd one or two stage 2 parasites (the cyst stage) in the bucket.

Hi Sue
Many thanks for your advice, will be going to the fish shop very soon to see what they have on offer. Have turned the temp up in the tank a little (to 27 at the mo) as I've also read this helps speed up life cycle so I can kill the little b*****s quicker lol! What temp would you recommend upping the temp to? I don't want to go too high and kill any fish, my gold neons are pretty teeny and I'm worried they won't survive the medication and the temperature change (albeit very gradual temp change). :-\
Thanks
Zoe

I aim for 29 to 30 degrees. It's only for a short while so they should be OK. The last time I had whitespot was from a new group of green neons tetras. These were very tiny too, but they survived the treatment.
