I don't know whether to laugh or cry but I'm praying the little fella will be ok, this is what happened.

I left here at 2pm and got home 10 mins ago and as usual I dropped their food in and sat by the tank to watch the antics and noticed I was missing a tetra, I couldnt see him anywhere in the tank at first glance and this little fellow is quite distinct as he's skinner and smaller than the other 5. Somehow this daft fish had swum up behind the filter and got himself wedged in!! Its a teeny tiny little groove and I have no idea what he was after but he must have breathed in to get in there in the first place!

I was worried to death I might squish him but I successfully shifted the filter body away from the support and he kind of slid out. I've bumped up the airstones out put as I'm assuming he couldnt have found it easy to breathe in there and thats all I can think of doing to help him out at this moment.

Sheesh!!!

This is actually quite common behaviour with fish in general. And some filters are more prone to it than others - the ones with the space behind them. The most notorious filter is the stingray, but it's not the only one. The way to prevent it happening again is to fill the gap behind the filter with filter wool.

As for the fish itself, provided there was no physical damage like losing half its scales, it should be OK. keep an eye on it (as though I need to say that  ;) )

He's only flipping done it again! I'll wait til my son gets home and then we'll need to do something, it's not as if they dont have loads of other places to hide in the tank. I deliberately chose wood that would  have little caves in when it was sitting on the gravel, ho hum. Which reminds me I must post a piccy at some point and I do keep a close eye on them, they're so much fun to watch Sue :)

if there is one thing you can be certain a fish will do its that it will do the exact opposite to what you want it to do.

Yup tell me about it!!! The one time I really need a good look at the Kamikaze Kid is the time he decides he wants to lurk in the plants at the back of the tank!
