This isnt quite the relaxing hobby I was expecting to be but I guess one day it will be.

Fin rot and fungal infections occur in poor water quality and when fish are stressed. So my glowlight tetras got fin rot and white spot very fast but when I went back to where I bought them most of that batch of fish had fin damage. I treated and am still treating that, the problem is because of the fungal treatment I have the old marina filter i100 minus carbon and zeolite running  and a fluval U2 running again minus carbon filters.

What comes first? water quality or remedial treatments? I feel I'm treating the symptoms but not the cause

You can do both. Water changes for the water quality and treat the tank at the same time. If it is a treatment that has to be added every day, do the water change then add the med. If it isn't dosed every day, on dose days do the water change first, and on non-dose days just add enough med to replace what you remove. Daily 25% water changes should be enough to sort out water quality, so on non-dose days just add 25% of the dose after the water change.

Okey dokey, the treatment is weekly so I'll just top up the fungal treatment according to how much water I take out. Thanks again Sue  :)
