Very cheap heaters can be found on the internet, including EBay. Most of these are the Hidom brand, from China. While these seem to work perfectly OK as heaters, no different from any others, they do have a very short cable. If a tank is on a "normal" height stand, and the power outlets are low down, then the cable will be nowhere near long enough. It's about 60 cms shorter than on other heaters I have. So I can only recommend these if you have a very short distance from your power outlet to the tank.

Thought I'd better give the data - the cable is just 90 cms long from where it leaves the plug to the top of the heater, compared to 150 - 160 cms on others I have.

Thanks for this Richard! It's these little important details that often go unnoticed. People see the top level price and dive in so to speak.

I just did a little search for one and came up with this one on amazon 6.95 just seems incredibly cheap!!

I bought I hidom heater. It's black and came with a guard. Only been used for a week and it's packed in. Not happy!
