Title: Hi everyone!
Post by: Thomalie on June 20, 2017, 07:24:59 AM
Returning to the hobby after quite a few years and have found this site very useful. Currently setting up a 40 litre community tank, hoping to introduce the pleasures of fishkeeping to my two grandsons!

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome!
Am very pleased to report the purchase of two sunset platy (1male and 1 female) from Distant Waters here in Norwich who have been very helpful.
I'm following the advice on here to the letter, in the past I would have started with guppies and cardinal tetras, it is great to have confidence after such a long break from the hobby. Any additional advice much appreciated!

Thomalie, did you fishless cycle the tank using ammonia from a bottle? If you didn't, you need to read this https://forums.thinkfish.co.uk/fishtank-filtration-and-cycling/fish-in-cycling-with-fish-how-to-do-it/ You said you were setting the tank up six days ago and it is impossible to fishless cycle a tank that fast......

With 1 male and 1 female, you may well find the male pesters the female constantly. The way to avoid this is by getting at least 1 more female - but not yet if you didn't do a fishless cycle..
And I should warn you that with a 40 litre litre tank, it will be overstocked pretty quickly with platy fry  :-\
