Hello Dave, and welcome to the forum. You've come to the right place to be
bossed around helped in setting up your tank. ;D
Have you read the section on cycling here (http://forums.thinkfish.co.uk/fishtank-filtration-and-cycling/fishless-cycling-how-to-do-it/)? It's probably changed a bit since *ahem* you were a lad. Don't believe the fish shop when they say that you can add a bottle of magic bacteria and, *shazam*, your tank is cycled.

Welcome, Moby  - you've come to the right place as we're a friendly bunch.
If you did the cycling earlier in the year, then we'll all be desperate to know what fish you have and see some pics :) . Some folk on here are fortunate enough to have multiple tanks but the rest of us live our 'multiple tank syndrome' through admiring everyone else's. :)

Hi there and welcome to the forum.
Even those of us fortunate enough to be able to indulge our requirements for multiple tanks love to hear about other tanks and thoroughly enjoy looking at lots of pictures. ;D

I really like the markings on the rummynose tetras and rasbora, very pretty.
I have some pandas, and plan to get some otos in a few months.
