I'm no expert on angelfish by any stretch but they would be a further cichlid in the tank which makes me wary, furthermore Angelfish are not likely to stay small and I'm not sure how well they stick to the top...

Just pause on getting them till someone with more experience can verify if they would be ok... I've never kept them so might be wrong on all of the above!

I'd agree with Matt and believe AF can get nasty, and big...  What about some Hatchet Fish....?

I've been tempted by rocket panchax a few times when I've seen them in the shops...

Thanks guys - plenty of food for thought.

I'm not doing anything for a week or two. Just going to let things settle down a bit, but tossing ideas around.

Panchax are lovely. I'm also a fan of the golden wonder and red chinned panchax.
Unfortunately I don't have any space available here.

Hi BTBob, a belated welcome. I've never even been to Cardiff (is it in Europe somewhere?) but I did live in Australia for 5years as a young'un.

Just to add to the dechlorinator debate, I've always used Haloex. It's a similar value to Prime, which I don't use, partly because it stinks...

I would not get angels. They should really be kept as a group of about half a dozen but 180 litres is not big enough for 6 of them. And if two were to pair up, the others could be attacked by the pair.

I agree, everything will go haywire if (when) Angels pair up. Plus they need a tall tank... at least 18" water depth.

Cichlids totally change the dynamic of a tank, with few exceptions. Thankfully the two Ram species are usually exceptions.

Thanks Mark - I almost can't bring myself to answer your question  :'( It's the capital of Wales (somewhere in Europe  ;))

Thanks Mark & Sue for the comments re Angels. They bear out my research. Shame, cos they look stunning.

The Panchax are new to me - look great in pictures, so I'll try to seek them out and take a look.

Again - thanks to everyone for the advice and support

Just reading back a little... Angels are not top-dwellers anyway. Panchax are. Rockets and Epiplatys dagetti are the ones you're most likely to encounter. Golden Wonders have a big mouth and grow big enough to tackle neons.

I can't remember how big your tank is but hatchets need to be in a group, and need both open water and the security of floating plants. Danios tend to be top dwellers, although not glued to the surface like hatchets. Danios need a lot of space because they're hyperactive.

Any fish with an upturned mouth feeds at the surface so is likely to spend its time there...

Let's face it, Cardiff is quite foreign, and the people are quite difficult to understand.  ;)

I have a group of 8 sliver hatchets in my South American tank. I will say that they are a very unusual shape, quite active, and fascinating to watch. Marble hatchets are also quite small, and have lovely markings, although not colourful like the panchax.

I like surface feeders. The upturned mouth makes them look a bit grumpy.  :)

I always fancied some Hatchet fish but am fully stocked now...  They're one of those fish that looks so much better when you actually see them than they do in photos...  Great fish...  :)

I really enjoyed watching your video of your tank.  You have a lovely tank and collection of fish.

It's got me thinking that I'll have to dig out all the other videos of forum members' tanks.

And perhaps I should do a video of mine.

And my husband looked over my shoulder while Was watching and called me a fish geek!  :yikes:

:rotfl: I'm not really offended. I know what I am!

Thank you @Helen  - took me a while to work out how to post the link..

We're cutting down on food (think we've been overdoing it a little) and the time the lights are on (was 4:45pm-11:45pm, so I've reprogrammed the switch to 5:00-11:30 to see if that helps with the algae.
