Hi All,

I am a new fishkeeper and I look after the community tank for our family. We jumped in at the deepe end by taking over someone's fish tank who was getting out of the hobby, inheriting a motley bunch of fish.

After reading almost everything possible (there is a lot and often conflicting!), including using the community creator tool here on thinkfish, we have gotten our fish into a bigger tank as  an urgency, and just waiting til the end of the month to start setting up our absolutely huge fish tank hopefully the only one we'll ever need!

these are our fish

1 opaline gourami
3 kuhli loach
4 clown loach
9 black neon tetra

Welcome to the forum.

What size tank are you getting?

The Clown Loach will end up eating the kuhlies, and possibly the black neons. They grow huge. If you intend keeping them i would get a few more. Also more kuhlies if you’re keeping those.

:)

Hi @ElaineF and welcome to the forum.

It must be quite a handful to take over another person's fish tank, best of luck.

We'd love to see some pics of your adopted community tank, and are looking forwards to hearing about your new tank.  :)

Hi thanks for your replies and welcomes.

I think it's hilarious that the first reply is all about who is going to eat who in the fish tank!

By the way my specialist skill is that I take the most appalling photos and I have tried again but no change. so I will spare you the ordeal for now.

Welcome to the fishkeeping hobby and to Thinkfish, @ElaineF

I think it's hilarious that the first reply is all about who is going to eat who in the fish tank!
After a while, we fishkeepers develop certain characteristics e.g. being tempted by other species of fish to the extent that we start to develop hankerings for increasingly more tanks; waking up with bad dreams about green rather than yellow (i.e. presence of ammonia in a water test result); and encyclopaedic knowledge of the requirements of certain fish to the extent that certain combinations of fish where an almost-inevitable outcome of being consumed as a snack is likely will instil a :yikes: reaction as happened in the case of Hampalong. In time, you'll become like us, rest assured.  ;D
More seriously, though, that's good advice from him - and there's a general rule-of-thumb that, if a fish can fit in another's mouth, then it inevitably will at some stage.

I'm not good at taking photos either. In fishkeeping, the general secret is to take lots and lots of photos, then post the best/1% one of those that isn't blurred. Hope that's of some reassurance.  :D

Welcome to the forum and the hobby

Would love to hear what plans you have for your new tank!! Are you planting it? What equipment are you using?...

By the way, what is your water hardness? Have a look on yiur water companies website what your local water quality report says and let us know the units and we can check the suitability for the fish.

Any questions you have we will be more than happy to help  ;D
