Welcome! What initial plans do you have in mind for your tank?

I have 2 tanks.

The 30 cm cube, which is around 23 litres, is home to a colony of red cherry shrimps and a striped Clithon snail (a type of small nerite). There are posts on here from way back about the problems I had starting the shrimp colony but it's now been self sustaining for 10 years or so.

My main tank is a custom built tank. Strangely the company worked in Imperial so it's 42 x 18 x 18 inches, or 107 x 45 x 45 cm. It is home to shoals of cherry barbs, including one newly discovered 1 cm long fry, harlequin rasboras both natural and the black form, and the so called neon green rasboras, Microdevario kubotia. There is one lone female pearl gourami and three stiphodons of unknown species. Plus a group of 'mixed' cherry shrimps bought from eBay for algae control. Oh nearly forgot, several nerites - a couple of zebra, a couple of those red ones with black spots, a wagaiensis, a black helmet, a king koopa and a striped clithon.

I thought I'd start a thread to encourage longstanding, former and newer members to share what their tanks currently contain.

My 54L has changed a bit this year, and, within the past month, I've lost one of each species and just this week one of my two elderly nerite snails  :'(.  Sadly, I'm down to my last cardinal (and don't plan to get more, much as I loved them - but they seemed very prone to bacterial-type infections), but have the full complement (bar one) of my espei rasboras and ember tetras.  The quarantine tank currently has recently purchased ember tetras to swell their numbers and some hengeli rasboras in it - hoping the latter assimilate in alongside the espeis.

Welcome to the forum, Ben  .  It's quite quiet on here these days, and likely more so at this busy time of year, so apologies that I'm the first to reply - and belatedly.

Is your new tank cube-shaped and measuring 40cm x 40cm x 40cm?

Had you any thoughts on what you wanted to stock in it?  It might happily house some aquatic plants, shrimp and snails (if you can stuff filter wool or cover any gaps at the lid), but fish choices will be limited due to its size (we can help with that, though, and ensure you find fish best suited to whatever your water hardness is).

In the meantime, this should help to get the tank prepared for whatever you decide to stock in it:

Hi all,

My name is Ben and I'm 25, based in Luton. I've always been fascinated by fish of all kinds and aquatic plants but I've never been in a position to fully invest the time and money... until now!

I have had a few coldwater and tropical tank setups before, but my parents did most of the looking after (as much as I tried to get involved) and I think it's safe to say that it wasn't all done 'properly' sadly.

I've just bought myself the Aqua one Aspire 55l (I have the time and money but definitely not as much space as id like!) which is a lovely little tank.

Very much looking to connect on here and learn as much as I possibly can from all of you lovely experts.

Lovely tank, @Scodge (even if the cat on top makes me a bit nervous :D ).
Hope you have some luck in rehoming your fish and tank to someone on here.
If not, you might have some luck on https://aquarist-classifieds.co.uk/ or via the contacts on this page https://fins.actwin.com/fish/dir/clubs.php?c=20 (there is one for Sunderland) or even someone prepared to travel from Yorkshire (https://www.yorkshireaquaristsociety.co.uk/index.htm has an e-mail address at the bottom of the page).

Ha thanks.. this is sorted now  :)
