Title: Meet Violet....
Post by: ColinB on June 25, 2014, 01:28:27 PM
Well... on a very dark and stormy night, Thursday the 1st of May, MrsB and I drove across country to rescue a cat that was about to be made homeless on Friday. The future was pretty bleak for that cat (and she had a stupid name) so she obviously needed a new home..... and a new name.

She hid under the bed for a few days, and then crept out..... so here's Violet;

She goes outside now, which is good 'cos we can put the litter tray back in the loft, but she's still very nervous and impossible to pick up. She's about 13 and she was a rescue cat as a kitten and then went to a noisy home full of kids where she was basically ignored. I don't think she can believe her luck ending up in our peaceful house where she's pampered. Fogarty the Cat has been so good. He'll sit and wait for her to finish eating and stay out of 'her' room. What a cutie..... and she ignores the fish tank, too! *phew*

She's very pretty - looks like my cat, Minnie, who was also a rescue. She doesn't look 13 though  :)

Aw, she's lovely Colin  :)   And I love her name!  Diz is right - she doesn't look 13.  Bet she thinks she's in heaven now  ;D

Have to ask (cos I'm dead nosy!) - what was her "stupid" name?

When we got my dog Harry we renamed him. Not so much that his original name was bad but it was associated with his neglectful home and gave him a 'new start'!

Violet looks lovely Colin, rescue animals are always slightly harder at first but they soon learn like she appears to have!

Thanks all. There's no way I'm going to sully the good reputation of this forum by telling you Violet's previous name..... but it was a bit like calling a rabbit 'floppsie'. :P

She's lovely, looks a lot like my own black and white cat. Looks like she's very settled already :)

Thanks, FC. We got her to the vets the other day for the first time because she's so difficult to pick up without a handful of claw. She sleeps outside in the workshop at the mo', out of her own choice, tho' I'm sure she'll come in as the weather gets colder.

Awww she looks like a sweetie :) I love cats and I still miss mine, she died 3 years ago at the ripe old age of 19. I'm really curious as to what Violets original name is, do tell Colin  :)

Our 19year old cat died a year or two ago, also. So we planted her (after cremation) in a big pot with a lavender (sp. Little Lady) growing in it. It was her favourite type of plant and she would often sleep in the middle of a lavender bush in our previous house. One of Violet's favourite places to curl up and sleep is in that pot! We like the 'circle of life'.

Violet's previous name was.... was..... nnnngggg.... nnnnnnngg..... No - I can't do it!  ;)

A few years ago my son took an elderly female cat from the rehoming centre called Baby. Their next cat, a tom, was called Dylan, much more sensible.
My other son has two cats, litter mates Tilly and Tom. Despite what the rehoming centre said, Tom is a girl  :-\

Violet wasn't called Baby like my son's cat?

Nope! None of the above..... however.... 'Cooking Fat' has a certain something!

OK.... there's been too much suspense lately, what with the Scottish Vote (the one about women being 'allowed' as members of the Royal & Ancient Wotsit) so I'll come clean...

Fliss

Pretty high on the 'stupid' scale in my book!

Maybe her full name was Felicity but the previous owners decided that was too much of a mouthful  ;D
Though that name with its sibilants would be heard by the cat very easily  ;)

Very pretty girl

Thanks, we got her to the vet's yesterday for her second round of injections, so she's fully innoculated (and microchipped) now for the first time in many years.
