Very nice. I would gladly take some of their eggs but somehow I don't think they'd survive the journey in the mail.

One of our neighbours keeps chickens, and geese, and ducks..... we have a never ending supply of fresh eggs of various sizes. Lovely!

She also rescues Shetland ponies and breeds Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. She's quite a character!

I want chickens but the Mrs won't let me  :(

My next door neighbour has three hens and they are the freshest eggs I've tasted.

I hope you've got high fences, the hens next door could easily clear the 6ft fence panels. Not bad for a flightless bird lol.

My son's next door neighbour keep some fancy type of chicken. When he moved in his cat decided he'd have a go at catching one but the cockerel didn't agree with that. The cat just watches them now.
The neighbours lock the cockerel indoors overnight so he doesn't wake the neighbours up at dawn  ;D

Love the idea of keeping chickens and getting fresh eggs daily but don't have the room, only have a small front and back garden, both of which are terraced as I live on a hill, so no chance.

I do get visits from Moor Hens from the river in front of my house but they never leave any eggs :-[, wrong type of hen!

@apache6467

I know this is an old topic but saw it and had to add.. I also have 4 chooks and one is also called Ginger! she is the boldest!  But I have to say mine are not ones I have to worry about flying anywhere!       I was wary when I got them as Id owned chickens before and its amazing how well some fly, sneak past you, escape etc. But not these Welsummers and silver laced Wyandotte. They flap across the lawn when the cat tries his luck but that's all!

I also have four chooks and they're delightful little characters. Having poached egg on toast for brekkie every morning is just fab.

We are wondering what to do with ours, we have 40 and they wont take kindly to being confined to barracks.
I was considering netting an area between the two nesting sheds but they will have an escape committee and the first tunnel well under way within hours.
We are constantly amazed how deep they dig, the garden is on a Beeching closure railway embankment and they have tunnelled in under the grass by at lease 2ft in places.

Ours are confined to their run (they usually wander around the garden) but I can't keep them in their coop for a month. I could put stuff from the shed into the garage and then keep the chooks in the shed, I suppose.

However; the farm at the end of the lane has loads of free-range pheasants which can't get caged and one of our neighbours has hens, ducks and geese and she's got nothing to keep them in. If either of them get Avian flu in their stock then we'll be in the culling area.

Bit of a quandary, really.
