First post here so hi to all!

I’ve just finished cycling a 200l (110cm) aqua oak tank and today we bought our first fish  :fishy1:

Went up to Wharf Aquatics, north Derbyshire (Junc 28, M1) - Our new finned friends are settling in well  :)

We now have:

5 Danios
5 x-ray Tetras
5 Endlers

Went for some hardy fish to begin with, but I can’t help thinking, should I have bought more?? All of that hard work to build up all that good bacteria and the tank looks a bit empty! To be fair, the LFS were great and advised against Corydoras and a few other fish I wanted until the tank is a bit more matured. Was this good advice? Should I get some more hardy fish so that the bio load is greater or should I be ok for now?

Well chuffed that we now have fish   :fishy1:

Great news! Congrats on your new fish  :fishy1:

I would recommend getting a few more of the same species of fish as they will be more comfortable in larger groups, especially the Danios and Tetras. Maybe boost your numbers to 8 of each. 6 is the normally recommended minimum, but you have the tank space to easily go a little higher than this without preventing any future plans.

That was good advice re the corys... nice to see a store offering good advice like this (for once!).
You'll be able to increase your stocking by a third a week with no problems, so no need to dramatically increase anytime soon neccessarily, I'd always rather play things safe  ;)

Cheers buddy - yes I was massively impressed with those guys at Wharf. They took their time and didn’t rush me in to anything. They asked a lot of questions and really considered everything.

I’ll be heading back to boost numbers!

Congrats and glad to read that the store offered good advice.

Looking forward to seeing some photos, especially of the young x-ray tetras.  Mine are elderly now. I love the colouring of their finnage - dorsal fin and tail in particular.
