Title: where to put my fish whilst aquascaping?
Post by: graygang on September 05, 2013, 01:19:49 AM
I'm slowly buying items to aquascape my 54 litre . I have a 20 gallon set up with 6 platy and 4 danio ,when  the 54 litres set up. I will move some of them into it . Then I would like to start scaping my 20 gallon my.question is what shall I do with the fish while I'm setting it up as putting them all in the 54litre might be a bit cramped, plus I have 2 fry so by the time I starts scaping the bigger tank theyl be a lot bigger so even mor fish to deal with, any ideas ?

How long will the aquascaping take?

A few hours - put the fish in a bucket of tank water. Use the heater to keep the water warm. Run the filter in there too, or if that's not practical, let the filter or at least the media sit in the bucket to keep the media wet. Cover the bucket with an old towel or some such to stop the fish panicking and jumping out.

A few days - get a plastic storage box with a lid near enough the volume of the tank, then just set the fish up in there. Treat it like a tank except you won't need substrate. Run the filter and heater, and put some decor in. Plastic storage boxes are often used as emergency tanks, for example when the proper tank leaks.
