What Temperature Are Your Minnows At?

I want to buy about 8 white cloud mountain minnows, to put in with my platy's i know they are cold water fish, and i will be asking my Lfs what temp they are kept at, just wondered if anyone keeps em at about 23 c oh and can you mix the white with the gold ones sucessfully ?

It is very unlikely you'll ever have tiny tiddlers in a tank with platies. White clouds are egg scatterers; the platies and most likely the white clouds themselves will eat the eggs before they get chance to hatch. Even if some eggs end up where the fish can't get at them the fry are very tiny - I know, I deliberately bred them when I had them - and when they hatch and come out of whatever crevice the eggs were in, the fry won't last long. I bred them in my quarantine tank and had to remove the adults as soon as the eggs were laid to get fry.

Besides, you'll see their natural behaviour with males and females.



Platies are OK down to 20 deg C so 21 to 22 might the temp to aim for.
