I have a newly cycled 90l tank 24" x 15" x 15" with hard water, (LFS says all fish are acclimatised?) containing two handsome Platys and hope to get four or six more, some hi fin ones, so some months down the line, i would like a contrasting group of fish, say 6 or 8, i would really like black and white, like penguin, emperor or black neon tetras, or Zebra danios, something a bit more lively than platys, even considered guppies, and corys (have smooth but not fine gravel) can anyone sugest suitable candidates that are not likely to fin nip the hi fin platies or be too aggressive. Tough one i think :-\

Corys would definitely be ok, panda corys are very cute! Possibly chain loaches but check the fish profiles on this. I personally think all small, fast fish will nip if the fancy takes them but see what everyone else thinks!!!

Thanks FC is gravel an issue with the corys though ?

Sand is preferable as cories like to sift it in their mouths looking for bits of food, but smooth is more important. They can gut their mouths on a sharp substrate, allowing infections a chance to get in.
Don't forget your tank is only partially cycled not fully cycled. You have enough bacteria for the fish currently in the tank, when you add more fish you'll have to grow more bacteria. Slowly does it with getting new fish.

Thanks Sue, yes thinking further down the line here, two more platy next (guppy and endler gone back to shop)

I have small gravel in my tanks and my corys are fine on it and whiffle about happily!!!

Happy whiffling sounds good to me :))

I agree....you can't go wrong with Panda Cories, they are super cute, but I would say to hold on a while for them, and if you decide you want some, ( they should be in 6's really, to be happy and feel safe :) ) save some room in your tank for them, as they should go in to a more mature tank, (6 months after cycle is completed).
Worth waiting for though ;)
P.S. I haven't run the numbers, so check your tank is big enough with all you want to have.

Panda cities do get a lot of love on here, have a look at Julii Cories, which are for me the best looking Cories and have bags and bags of character. I'm having 10 of them when I'm allowed.
-
Aah autocorrect panda Cories not cities.
-
Oooh i think with ten of them it will be Panda Cory city :)) and thanks Resa, i'm begining to think cories will have to be for another future bigger tank maybe, perhaps as well if i learn the ropes with Platy and Tetras and then down the line if im still hooked and more experienced i will have lots to choose from. :)
