Hi. Please can anyone help me, with some advice concerning ceramic noodles. I have read the manual for my AquaStyle 380 Aquarium, and it says never wash them with tap water, I already knew that part. What I am asking is do they ever need changing, and am I ok to rinse them with the water I remove, when I change the 25% of water! I do this weekly now! but I only want to know to rinse them when there is some residue in the bottom of the filtration unit. I now how purchased an API FreshWater-master test kit, so I can keep my eye on the water condition. I am learning slowly, but any help & advice would be taken on board, and very great full too. Hope this all makes sense many thanks for reading Paul.

There are some that say the bacteria live in channels within the ceramic 'fabric' and that these get bunged up and eventually get so blocked they won't wash so you have to replace them. But then other people have been using the same ceramics for donkeys years with no problems. I have sintered glass rather than ceramic noodles, but the principle is that same; I've not changed mine since I bought the filter several years ago.
