the first one was a cheap one and wasnt man enough to get bubbles through the 10" bubble tube, only lasted 2 weeks, the 2nd one is a fluval Q2 one meant to be capable of up to a 600 litre tank, i have a fluval 200 litre tank.

it lasted 2 weeks as well!, slowly deteriorating.

i have the pump then check valve then up to the bubbler, am i missing something?? cant be a coincidence surely?

Hello Dylan.
Not sure I can help really but I see that nobody else has so I'll give my thoughts.

The Fluval shouldn't be struggling at that size. It could be a coincidence that this one too is failing. Have you thought of taking it back to the shop to get it checked.

Fluvals aren't cheap are they.  The only other thing is whether the valve is the right way round but if that was the case then no air would be coming through at all.

Hopefully this will have "bumped" your post and others might see and reply for you

I have never used a bubbler powered by an air pump, so I'm just guessing.
I've looked at the instructions for the U2. Can I run through them to make sure you've done exactly what they say.

Connected the pump to the check valve the right way round (as Anne said)
Attached another piece of airline tubing to the check valve at one end and the bubbler at the other.
Checked that there are no kinks anywhere in either section of airline tubing (pump to check valve and check valve to bubbler)

Are you using just one thing attached to the pump? The instructions say that if you are using multiple attachments you need one more outlet than accessories to "bleed over production of air due to back pressure build up".

Have you adjusted the rheostat to give higher air flow or is it set too low?

Other than this, you need to wait until someone who uses bubblers to give their opinion  :-\

I presume by "bubbler" you are referring to the airstone rather than the pump. Airstones need regular cleaning; the small holes through which the air escapes gets easily clogged by "stuff"

Decided to ditch the strip bubbler for a normal airstone,  I recon there was too much resistance in the line rendering the pump diaphragm faulty, I've gotten a replacement pump from amazon too so all good!
