That's really nice Fiona. It's great when it's all settled and looking good isn't it? Makes all the hard work and anxiety worthwhile.

Thankee kindly  :) it was fishless for 2 months while I played around with the plants. The java moss on the floor isn't quite covering the pads it's growing on and I doubt the plants on the wood have attached themselves yet but over all I'm pretty pleased with the effect. When the large filter on the right has matured, it'll go behind the log on the left so it'll be invisible. The large pebbles are swapped out once a day from my 'algae farm' and I squish bits of catfish pellets on for the ottos to get a bit of extra grub.

Is this your main tank, or do I seem to remember you saying you were getting a bigger one? I must say, it looks quite roomy to me. With your  algae farm, do you just put the stones in water on your windowsill with nothing else in the bowl? I'm trying to grow agae on my pebbles, but nothing seems to be happening. Mind you, we probably get much less sunshine in the northeast of Scotland than most folk!

It's my only tank atm, the smaller one I was going to set up as a quarantine tank turned out to be leaky but we will get a bigger one once I've got to grips with this one. It's a 55l tank

I put a couple of drops of ammonia in the algae farm (Sue's tip) and it speeds it up, I have the pebbles in a glass bowl on the windowsill.
