Hi this may be a stupid question but are these fish actually annual in captivity? If not, is there a way to keep them well? :isay:

It depends on the species, some are annual and some are not. You need to look up the information for each species. Generally, most are said to live longer at slightly lower temperatures e.g. 20 - 22 degrees. They can live for three years or so at these temperatures, but none are really long-lived. They are really a specialist group often kept by people who keep nothing else.
