Hi everyone new to the forums and kinda new to fishkeeping!  I used to keep tropical fish in my teens, and only now in my early 30s that I've gotten back into it.

I have a query, i have a 70l juwel rekford tank. It is heavily planted with 10 Neon tetra, 4 honey gourami, 4 red cherry shrimp and an assassin snail. I was looking to add two electric blue rams in a few weeks to finish off my tank, but i have heard that the honey gourami make take bad with the introduction? any advice would very helpful

I had honey gouramis for years, the only reason I don't now is because I have emperor tetras and I don't think the gouramis would cope well with such active fish.

I never had a problem with them and other fish. The only squabbling I ever saw was between the females when I had a trio. The males did chase females when they wanted to breed but nothing damaging. I kept honey gouramis with apistogrammas and bolivian rams (not all at the same time!) and had no issues.

Since both rams and honey gouramis have similar water requirements, they should be OK together. The only problem you might have is rams eating shrimps, certainly baby shrimps.

Out of idle curiosity, which colour honeys do you have? I always preferred wild coloured ones, which have become hard to get so I settled for yellows.

The gourami are a very bright yellow with orange and red on the belly and tail.

Ahhh the shrimp are a decent size at the mo, but i will take that into consideration, cheers for the help  :)
