Post by: skybluejay on May 02, 2013, 09:28:44 PM
I have hadmy tank for 3 months now, 50 ltr, amonia 0ppm, nitrite 0ppm, nutrate 20-30ppm, ph 7.5.
5 danios (3 zebra, 2 leopard)
Now this is going to sound really silly but i am gopin on holiday the week after next. i will be away from the monday afternoon and back on the friday afternoon. I have purchased a food pyramid block to put ion whilst away. The thing is i am worried that will they feed properly and get enough food. I didnt relaise i woul dget so attached to them but boy do i love the fish and wouldnt be without them now.

If wouldn't worry about feeding them at all, they will be fine for 4 days. I've left mine for 10 days without food on a number of occasions without issues. Holiday blocks contain lots of crap (for want of a more technical term - plaster or gel mainly) plus you are adding extra food which may raise the nitrate levels, whilst away.

It's great that you want to do your best for them; give them a water change Monday am and a normal feed before you leave.

Then go and enjoy your break, they will be fine.

I've left mine for two weeks with no feeding at all and there were no problems. Don't be tempted to do a big feed before you go to 'keep them going', it will just pollute the water.

As WW says - holiday blocks are worse than no food, but you can get auto-feeders although I've never tried them and really wouldn't bother for 5 days.

I agree  :)
You can leave fish for up to 2 weeks without food. And I've come across some horror tales of what those blocks can do to your tank.

I have just come back after a week away and no feeding and the fish are fine - infact they don't look any thinner!
