Golden Ram Eggs?

Those are ram eggs. They've been busy.


They may or may not eat the eggs themselves. Young fish often have to learn how to be parents, especially if they were separated from their parents as eggs/newly hatched fry. But if they do eat them this time, they'll learn eventually.

Would it be possibly to put some of the eggs in a breeding trap to potentially save them while i leave the rest of the eggs with the parents so they can learn how to be parents? Or willl this stress them out too much?

Try moving some eggs if you want but a few things to be aware of.

The eggs are sort of glued to the rock, you might not get them off intact.
The parents might get so upset at seeing you take out the rock to remove some eggs that they eat the rest.
If the eggs in the breeding trap are visible to the parents, they could well attempt to get them back.
If you mean a hard plastic breeding trap with slits, the fry would  fall through the slits. If you mean a net type, the parents would probably suck them through the mesh in an attempt to remove them. I had this happen with honey gouramis.

You said in the first post they were for your currently empty 70 litre. Is that where they've laid the eggs? If it is, I'd leave them there and don't get any more fish yet. A tank just to themselves is the best way to breed dwarf S American cichlids of most species.



Since they spawned so quickly it suggests you bought a mated pair, a good thing for the future. These fish need to choose their own mates and can become aggressive towards each other when just any male and female are bought as they may not get on.

I came home from work a few days ago and all the eggs were missing and no sign of any fry, must have been eaten then.
