Furry looking white growth!

Hi all, my tank is finally set up with with rocks wood and live plants, it's been a bit cloudy the last few days but starting to clear.
However my wood is now growing a white furry coating  :yikes: which when touched is slimey and comes off easily, but then floats around the tank  :sick: Assume it's not alge?  Any ideas, do I need to worry, or will do away eventually? 🐠

I have the same problem at the moment.. It is nothing to worry about and is quite normal.  I just try to suck as much off as I can during a water change.  Eventually it will disappear by itself though, especially if you have eg. Shrimp which will eat it.

Cool thanks Matt, no fish yet I just set the tank up at the weekend so I'll just wait for it to go away. Suppose it's good to know at least something can live in my tank  :rotfl:

It's (harmless) molds and fungi growing from dormant spores in the wood, now that they've got wet.

Most Algae eaters will eat it, but it can't survive long under water anyway. Once it's had its day in the sun there'll be no more...

Thank for your reply I'm going for the let it disappear on its own option as not decided with fish to get yet, it is slightly gross but fascinating at the same time  :sick:
