right here goes what food to use in my set up when built the more i read the more i get confused do i use flake or pellets because every time i go to my local aquarium shop they change there stock or have not got what i want so i then have to travel around to find what i want only to be told by some fish expert at only about 18 yrs old that what im useing is terrible i like to use new era cichlid but they tell me you need spirilina based food has any one any ideas

What kind of cichlids?
I see New Era do 3 types of cichlid food - south American, red Rift Lake and green Rift Lake. I would have thought that if you are getting the right one for the fish you have that should be OK.
According to something I've read, spirulina should be fed as a supplement to herbivorous and omnivorous Rift Lake cichlids as roughage, but not to carnivorous RL cichlids.
I don't know about American cichlids though.
