If anyone was thinking of doing a seasonal themed tank, i  have just seen the most decorative little christmas bauble of a fish, the "Golden Tetra" for the first time, though not maybe suitable for me, it caught my eye, especially as it was new in at Maidenhead Aquatics and some of them were (maybe stressed) and still silver, so eye catching and bright enough to hang on a tree, (err metaphorically speaking lol)

I think someone is on the wrong forum here.

Aren't Gold tetras one of those where the gold colour only appears when the fish are infected with a particular skin parasite? The gold is some sort of protection. Tank bred fish tend to remain silver, if it's the fish in question here.

Seriously fish says :

"The standard colour of the fish is a rather dull silvery grey, with a little colour in the fins. However in certain areas in nature, the species is sensitive to a particular type of trematode parasite. This causes a reaction in the skin of the fish, resulting in a spectacular metallic gold colouration formed by deposits of guanine."

Could be, the top half shone gold, Maidenhead Aquatics have them labeled as "Gold or Golden Tetras" and the assistant was hoping that the silver looking ones were going to settle in and turn gold like the rest, mmm sounds a bit dodgy then.

There are always gold neon tetras. It's a colour form of the ordinary neon. Don't think it's albino as it doesn't have red eyes.
