Hey quick question,
I'm going away for two nights, should I get my mum over to feed my fish, I will feed them before I leave tonight and then they have Monday & Tuesday by themselves I will be back Wednesday,
I'm a bit worried about leaving them I've just got my water right and have happy fish so I don't want to under feed them but don't want my mum to overfeed them I will get her over to show her the amount that she should feed
Thanks

Fish will be fine without food for that length of time. But if you want your mother to feed them the safest thing to do is measure out each day's food in a separate container of some sort. I find one of those pill boxes with a compartment for each day is perfect for this. All your mother needs to do is just empty one container into the tank each day.
If you trust her to obey your instructions, you can leave the food tub where it is. Some people have been known to think the fish keeper is being a bit mean and add more food - if your mother is likely to do this, hide the food tub  :)

The other point I would add, based on experience, is that sometimes the person popping in believes something may be awry when it's not, then either tries to address that or contacts you to mention it, causing undue worry at your end. On that basis, and given that a couple of days without food is definitely fine, I would leave the situation as it is on this occasion.

For longer stays away, it's obviously a different matter - which is when you could employ Sue's great suggestion or else use an auto-feeder.

I have left my fish & axolotls for long weekends on several occasions and they have been fine.

I'm not fine as I constantly worry that something is happening while I'm away, only to see everyone looking great and keen to be fed on my return.  ::)

Hey thanks guys!
My partner thinks I'm crazy we are leaving in a couple of hours and I'm worrying something bad will happen to my little fish! I think you are right I thought having someone to check in on them would put my mind at ease but this could easily backfire If my mum tells me a Cory is at the bottom or she can't find a shrimp even though this is there normal behaviour!
Wish there was such thing as a fish sitter for holidays  :fishy1:
I do like the idea of measuring out the food though because I think most people would be inclined to treat the fish to a little extra!
