Filter Help Needed Please

My son set up my tank a few weeks ago and as I've got more confident I'm more aware of things.  For a while I didn't think the filter was working properly but couldn't work out why.  I did a biggish water change yesterday and investigated further.  It seems the pipes for the filter are back to front  .  What should be IN is connected to the OUT! 
I'm about to change it round but are there a few things I need to do apart from turn off the filter at the mains
Is it just a question of reversing the pipes or does something else need to be done

I wish I put things together myself, then I would know how it all works

So... do you have the filter sucking in water via the spray bar? I think the hoses just need swapping if that's the case...

Yes, it seems like it.  I was going to just swap the hoses round, I presume just undo from the top, but wondered if I need do anything else apart from switch off supply.

 going to give it a go,towel on floor filter in bucket.  Just hope it doesnt syphon out before I've finished!
