I've never had these fish but I can tell you that they are a shoaling species so you need at least half a dozen of them not just one.

The Pakistani loach, Botia lohachata, and the yo-yo loach (https://www.thinkfish.co.uk/fish/yoyo-loach.html), B. almorhae, are the same fish.

The profiles on here were written some years ago (before 2006 which is when I joined the old incarnation of this forum) and some of the information in them is out of date. The profile of the Pakistani loach on here does say it can be kept alone but both Seriously Fish (written by scientists) and Loaches Online (http://www.loaches.com/species-index/botia-almorhae) disagree, saying this species must be kept in groups.

Profiles were recently updated to reflect the broader understanding of this fish

Thanks for the info Sue, my pet store said they were fine as individuals in a community tank which was why I considered getting one

Lesson #1 in fishkeeping - never listen to the shop. Always check for yourself on a website that can be trusted.

Some shops are better than others, but so many train their staff to sell, not what the fish need.
