Hello Shrimpers,

Well done Fishcake - hope all is going OK.

Well the furniture move is complete, and, surprise, surprise, I have a tank on the cupboard in the lounge already cycling away for the cherries. Managed to get some crushed coral into the filter, and stole the bogwood and Java coconut from the 125L. There is now a new , soaked piece of bogwood in there.

The downside is that there is also now a significant space in the bedroom.......could I sleep with a filter running?......could I turn it off for say, 8 hours each night?.......oh dear, I really do think this (aaaargh) IS incurable.....Steve was right.....resistance is futile. Where will it all end ? Fish in the house, me in the shed?

Bedroom tanks can be a problem. You can't turn the filter off, so it does come down to finding a filter you can sleep with.

You can't do another furniture rearrange and put some lounge furniture in the bedroom ? ? ? ?

I don't know what the current Fluvel 4 is like but this old style is so quiet I have to keep checking it hasn't died on me.
I am trying to save time for tomorrow's fish transfer so have place it in a tall bucket (My wine making bucket actually!!) with it's original water and it is quite close to me here in the lounge.

In fact, before I posted this I thought I'd better check that it is still "alive" and it is. Quite powerful too for such a quiet one (I believe 1000 litres an hour)

Stop it Sue!!

Do you know, I'd never thought about sleeping with a filter.......do they wet the bed ??.....can you catch anything from those nitrowhateverthey're called ??

I could move a chair into the bedroom...but I don't think one of my mates would appreciate sitting in there alone, during the post skittles match whisky session......mind you there is one I don't like very much.....
No, I think 3 tanks in my microscopic lounge would be too much......for the moment. Cycling the shrimpery seems to have eased the MTS symptoms......the challenge will be when it's stocked. At that point, Sue, hopefully some clever fish keeping scientist will have developed an antidote.....I wonder if they could make something that stops me thinking about opening my wallet in an LFS.....and don't tell me it's called a marriage certificate.....I've been certified before!!

Hi Skittler

I know you are struggling with your MTS and don't want to hinder your commitment to recovery but just thought you might like to know I have a Fluval U2 filter and like Sanjo I find it is practically silent, if the plants weren't moving you wouldn't know it was on.

If you decided to go down the route of a bedroom tank I am sure it wouldn't keep you awake.

Thank you ladies,

This is a big decision for later in the year, when the existing tanks have survived my first holiday. I know that Fluval make a good product..........but I really don't want to sleep in the shed if it doesn't work. For the moment, I will just concentrate on my (currently very cloudy) shrimpery. Now, perhaps I could put that chair in the bedroom, .......and the TV.....there aren't any repeats on a fish tank.....oh dear.....

I have Franks tank in my bedroom and my son has the Bumble bee, dwarf puffer and otto tank in his room. I find Franks trickling filter to be quite relaxing to drift off too

Many years ago now, when I had terrible trouble sleeping, my husband bought me a sound machine.  IT was supposed to produce relaxing noises to go to sleep to.
There was white noise which was just a soft crackling in the background,
Tropical birds in a rainforest hmmmm nice but not relaxing
A heartbeat (this came in very handy when grandson no 2 was born as for the first year he had dreadful colic an there was no comforting him. He liked the noise from the machine though)
and last of all, a trickling, babbling brook which we both found very soothing.

We still have the machine and I get it out occasionally for nostalgia reasons.
The grandchildren always loved playing with it.

On the subject of shrimp, my little Nano is up and ready, cycled to 2ppm, water tested daily and topped with ammonia.

My lovely other half, no longer groans when I mention shrimp. In fact I casually said in the week that there's a seller on Ebay, in West London who has adult shrimp for sale but p&p was £9.99 so really it wasn't on.

"Well, buy them and we'll go on the train to collect them"  :rotfl:

I haven't done so yet, because he also sells endlers and I want to make sure he will sell adults only.

I assume a few Endlers will go with shrimp?

I've seen Red Cherry shrimps advertised as "cheery shrimps" presumably happy go lucky guys, and as "sherry shrimps" perhaps they like a drop of good stuff in their water  :)

When I first got my cherry shrimps I had larger female endlers in the same tank. The adult shrimps were fine with them, though I didn't see many babies. After giving away the female endlers and replacing them with sundadanios, I've seen a lot more babies.
The endlers may well have eaten a lot of babies as I know there must have been some as the females carried eggs all the time. But if you have a lot of dense plants, they won't be able to eat all the babies. And male endlers are a lot smaller than females so won't eat as many.

Thanks Sue.
I've spoken on the phone to the seller and he says I can have all males if I want but his English is very poor so........ it's a long way to go if I've misunderstood him. One end of the line to the other
