Shrimp feeding tray

I hope the picture comes out.

I bought clear acrylic trays to make a feeding tray like they sell on ebay but I was throwing away a cocoa tub and thought the lid might work as a tray  as it has a lip to "catch" any food in it when I was lifting it in and out.

I've just put it into the shrimp tank and it took ten minutes for the first shrimp to find it.
I've yet to prove if it works when I take it out mind you.

I have used a length of wooden dowelling and a suction cup to hold it to the side as it floats otherwise

Just an update in case anyone is interested.

These two shrimp and a couple of much smaller ones had quite a nibble.

I left it there for 20 minutes or so then lifted it out and the wafer stayed put under the rim, probably because it hadn't gone to mush.

Since there was most of it still in the tray I transferred it to the fish tank and it was a massive success.

The fish were fighting over the wafer and every nibble moved it around the tray but being caught under the rim did not get pushed out onto the sand which would have meant I had to siphon it up like last time.

Even my husband was fascinated by the constant movement around the tray. After 3/4 of an hour, and they were still actively at it, I carefully lifted it out. Bearing in mind that I was removing the whole thing through the feeding slot in the hood and I had to tilt it to get it through the opening, the last little bits stayed in place.
The fish had managed to break it into two small pieces but they were still under the rim as I lifted it out.

So all in all, it may not look attractive but it is functional.

I had already bought clear acrylic dishes to make some like on the internet but as they don't have the rim I think this is better

Looks great Sanjo. I've been using the glass dishes, but I dropped one and smashed it the other day, so this might be a more robust alternative!

Well Diz, it works which is the most important thing.
It may not be a thing of beauty..........

I don't actually need the suction cup after all as the ceramic ring (from bought in plants) fitted nicely over the dowelling and weighs it down and I can push it hard onto a piece of cucumber and it holds that in place too so all in all, I'm very pleased with myself.

The tray is screwed onto the dowel and this bothered me  a  bit because it isn't a stainless steel screw so today I covered the whole screw with marine silicone so hopefully that will do it.  It's not as if it will stay in the tank overnight.

Silicone doesn't work on everything. I have no idea if it would stick properly to wood or plastic so using a screw covered with silicone is a certain way to join those two and as the silicone won't be under pressure it should stick.
I tried to silicone a rim of perspex to the perspex lid of my QT and it fell off.

Silicon sealant will not adhere to perspex or to most types of plastic
