Do anybody know how you can if a shrimp is old age, only i got an amano that keeps going on it's side but is still eating ok. I can't make my mind up if she's poorly or old and on her last legs. I have noticed she has gone a darker brown colour tho.

All the water parameters are fine and all the rest of the shrimp are fine.

How long have you had them? I believe their lifespan is 2 to 3 years only.

Just under a year i think matt but how old she was before i brought them i don't know. I have racked my brains to try a find out why she is being like this & i would have thought if she was ill she would not eat.

I think i probably answered my own question by it being age.

I'm probably wide of the mark here, but could you have planaria in the tank...?  The shrimp in question might be "under attack" from a planaria possibly...?

Since amano shrimps are wild caught, it could well have been 'middle aged' when you bought it especially if it was large. Young shrimp will be the smaller ones. With females, I found that they stopped carrying eggs as they got older.

Not Planaria cookie but that was a good shout & sue she's not carrying eggs so that's interesting to know.
