Title: My little miracle snail has gone
Post by: Sanjo on July 21, 2015, 10:15:18 AM
Not died you understand - just gone!
No sign of her, no shell, nothing.
She was there on Tuesday last week because I did the tank.  We were way until Sunday and the first thing I check when I get back are the three tanks.  I didn't see her but there was a lot of greenery and stones in the quarantine so having done an ammonia check on all three ( 3 x 0) I didn't flap.
By last night I thought it was unusual that she hadn't shown somewhere in the tank, it is after all a very small tank so I used my gripper to move things around.
This morning I have stripped the tank and emptied it and she is not in there.
I' ve actually done some proper housework ! removed all the stuff from the sideboard the tank is on. I've been in, round, under and even checked the drawers as the back  of the sideboard  is open.

Nope, my little snail is no more.

I don't even know how she got out as there was a lid on the tank.

 :-\  :'(

She'd obviously had enough of me!!

Don't want to give you false hope, Sanjo, but could this be a good sign ie she's recuperated sufficiently to go travelling? She did make it across the floor the last time, didn't she? If so, perhaps she'll turn up in another room, in which case I'd tread carefully (literally) for the next few days, just in case she turns up somewhere.

It is odd. Shells don't disappear when a snail dies. Do you have any wood or caves in the tank? I've found snails squashed into the tiniest spaces.

It is all a bit odd.  I do have a cave in there Sue and it was one of the first places I looked, thinking she was stuck to the inside but no, empty as the tank.

I've cleaned and disinfected the tank today and I put my glasses on to check every stone in case it was a shell.

Fcfm It's a through lounge so quite long.  We went away Tuesday and came back Sunday. I  know she survived 5 days on the carpet before but IF she IS still alive somewhere it won't be for long if I can't find her. It'd been more than 5 days now.

I shall have to keep looking because it's really bugging me.  The tank was perfect as far as perameters were concerned, no ammonia etc so she should have been comfortable.  I suppose she just had wander lust!!

No fruitbat, I never did  :'(

Bless her, she was so pretty to and had even started to get active again once she was over the original trauma.

I am completely baffled as I just don't see how she could have got out.

Even if I had accidentley "flipped" her over the back of the cupboard when doing a water change she (or her shell) should still have been around.
I've been all down the back of the sideboard, the sides and underneath. Nope. She is no more
